My Process

Have an idea for a children's book that you'd like to make a reality? I can help you get started!

Here is an example of a project I'm working on with my friend, Kat Woodward. She created a song for her little one and wanted to transform it into a picture book.

1

Story First

First, we finalize the text. I can help edit or you can work with a professional editor. Children's books should be simple, while maintaining some excitement!

2

Storyboard

I start by sketching out each page with text and illustrations. This gives us an idea for number of pages and layout. Layout is dependent on page size. Curious about sizes, costs, and cover options? Check out Lulu’s pricing calculator.

3

Illustration

I offer illustration services for  $100/spread (2 facing pages). You’re also welcome to provide your own images or illustrator. AI tools can be a great budget-friendly option too!

4

Layout Design

Once the artwork is ready, I use InDesign to design each page. My pricing per page is as follows:

  • $20/page if using your illustrations

  • FREE if using me as an illustrator

(Other platforms like Ingram and Amazon have their own layout tools, but I find them pretty clunky.)

5

Print & Proof

I can help upload your files and choose the best printer based on your goals (wholesale, one-off, etc.)

6

Sale & Distribution

If you want to sell your book, you can do it independently—or through my publishing imprint, Slowbo Press.
I’ve partnered with local stores in San Francisco. Each has its own style, so we’ll discuss whether your book’s a good fit.
If you publish with Slowbo, we’ll work out the proceeds later on.
